ADVANCED THERMAL PROPERTIES OF REFRACTORIES - October 29 & 30, 2018

A Two Day Course Sponsored by The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation

In response to industry demand, Orton is offering a series of new short courses dealing with refractories and glass. The first new course to be offered is "Advanced Thermal Properties of Refractories,” to be held on October 29 and 30, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. In addition to the classroom lectures the course will include a demonstration lab session each day. Visit https://www.ortonceramic.com for additional course details and registration information.

Who Should Attend

Engineers and scientists who are involved in the manufacturing, research and development, or consumption of refractory materials will find this course beneficial. A high level technical or engineering background is essential to take this course, although technical professionals may find the subject matter informative and useful.

Course Objectives

The primary objective of this course is to provide the participants with an in-depth understanding of the thermal properties of refractories. The laboratory sessions are designed to provide the participants with direct experience in fabricating test specimens and the application of standard ASTM test methods. Each participant will receive course notes and reference material for future reference.

Future Courses

In addition to the above advanced course, there will be two other advanced courses, three technician training courses, and an introduction course offered in the future. The tentative course schedule with dates is shown below:

Technician Training – Thermal Properties of Refractories (March 2019)

Advanced Mechanical Properties of Refractories (June 2019)

Technician Training – Mechanical Properties of Refractories (October 2019)

Technician Training – Physical Properties of Refractories (March 2020)

            Introduction to Glass (March 2020)

            Introduction to Refractories (June 2020)

Technician Training – Thermal Properties of Refractories (March 2021)

Advanced Corrosion Behavior of Refractories (June 2021)

Technician Training – Mechanical Properties of Refractories (October 2021)

Orton will also provide certificates for students completing a combination of three advanced courses or three training courses plus one introduction course.
