Advanced Ceramic Testing Methods

ASTM # Test Name Description
.
C-1161 Flexural Strength of Advanced Ceramics At Ambient Temperature. T9763 Flexural strength is determined in three-point or four-point bending on bars of rectangular cross-section. Testing of ten specimens per type/brand is recommended by ASTM.
C-1259 Dynamic Young's Modulus, Shear Modulus, And Poisson's Ratio For Advanced Ceramics By Impulse Excitation of Vibration. T9767 A non-destructive sonic method is used to determine the modulus of elasticity and modulus of rigidity for calculation of Poisson's Ratio. Bars of rectangular cross-section are used for the measurements.
C-1341 Flexural Properties of Continuous Fiber-Reinforced Advanced Ceramic Composites. T9764 Flexural strength is determined in three-point or four-point bending on bars of rectangular cross-section. Testing of ten specimens per type/brand is recommended by ASTM.
C-1421 Fracture Toughness of Advanced Ceramics At Ambient Temperature. T9768 Fracture toughness is determined in three-point or four-point bending on chevron-notched bars of rectangular cross-section. Testing of four specimens per type/brand is recommended by ASTM.
Flexural Creep A rectangular test bar up to 5" long is loaded in a 3-point flexure and heated to a test temperature while the bar deflection is monitored with a laser.
