Hot Modulus of Rupture (ASTM C583)

  • Oct 28, 2022
  • 1 min read

Measuring the modulus of rupture of refractories at elevated temperatures has become a widely accepted means to evaluate materials at service temperatures.

Utilizing ASTM C583 - "Standard Test Method for Modulus of Rupture of Refractory Materials at Elevated Temperatures," samples are soaked at temperature for 12 hours before applying a bending force.

Knowing the bending strength of a refractory material is critical for developing refractory linings and quality control.
