Orton - Over 125 Years of Service

Fun Fact Friday! Did you know that the roots of The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation date back to 1896? That was the year Dr. Orton established The Standard Pyrometric Cone Company.

In the early 1890s, Dr. Orton recognized the ceramic industry's need for a calibrated visual device to measure the amount of heat work delivered to ceramic products during the firing process and to validate thermal processing. Pyrometric cones were developed to meet this need.

In 1932 upon his death, The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation was established as a charitable trust to continue the operation of The Standard Pyrometric Cone Company. The Edward Orton Jr. Ceramic Foundation is located in Westerville, Ohio, and for over 125 years, has served Industry and the Arts.
